Gambit addiction is a powerful allegory of addiction. Gambit is no longer the charismatic thief; he is a captive. The diamond is his cage, the poisonous green is his substance/obsession, the barbed wire is his shackles, and the scream is his existence. The external symbols show that everything he was (heart, faith, luck, wealth) has been corrupted by this central trap. The artist, signing CRETART, has succeeded in encapsulating the tragedy of a soul consumed by its own demons.
